Rondvassbu is the DNT cabin in the very heart of the Rondane National Park and is deservedly popular. Originally built in 1903, the facility has seen many renovations in its time and provides unrivalled access to Rondane’s major peaks and trails. If you plan to camp nearby, you can still pay for the use of the facilities and purchase food.

The trail via Rondhalsen is the standard way between the Bergedalstjønnin lakes and Rondvassbu, unless you want to take the boat across Rondvatnet. At 1,647 metres (5,403 ft), it provides exceptional views across the lake towards Rondslottet and Vinjeronden, towering above the deep glacial scoop of Styggebotn.

The saddle between Vinjeronden and Storronden lies right at the heart of the Rondane range and is the link between its two highest peaks. The view down Storbotn towards Langglupdalen is magnificent. If bound for Vinjeronden, the going gets tougher from here.

Vinjeronden is one of Rondane's ten 2,000-metre peaks, standing proud at 2,046 metres (6,713 ft). It's the impressive southern neighbour of Rondslottet, the highest in the range and is connected by a high ridge. The route to Rondslottet from Rondvassbu passes over the summit. Interestingly, it's also the meeting point of the Dovre, Folldal, and Sel municipalities.

The popular ferry service is the easiest and quickest option to cover the length of this long and thin lake. But hikers who take on the challenge of the ascent along the western perimeter of Rondvatnet are rewarded with unique and beautiful views that make the effort worthwhile.

At this trail junction, you've got the option of heading left towards Rondane's highest summit, Rondeslottet, or right towards Storronden, the second highest in the national park. Whatever you choose, you'll have a great experience among magnificent mountains.

A mighty 7,014 foot (2,138 m) summit, Storronden is a great objective from the Rondvassbu DNT cabin. It rises to the south of Rondeslottet and the two can be linked via a col.
