Žovnek is one of the oldest castles in Slovenia. The family tree of the mighty and European important counts of the Celjske sega to Savinjsko-Žovneške, noblemen from the Savinja Valley area and from the vicinity of which the owners of the castle were, mentioned for the first time in the years from 1130 onwards. In the past, the castle was destroyed and left tooth of the time, but after its proclamation, the cultural and historical monument began to be renovated and has already become an attractive and pleasant tourist spot with a beautiful view of the nearby Žovneško jezero and sp.
