Gentle waves lap the shore of the Phoenixsee, a small sailboat sails into the harbor at Hörder Burg. On the promenade, which is very busy in the beautiful excursion weather, most visitors have an ice cream in their hand or sit in front of the restaurants and cafés under large sunshades and the plane trees. People use the benches and watch the countless little stars that the sun conjures onto the water. Some sunbathe on the lawns and jetties, others read, while the little ones romp around on the playgrounds and bake simplified models of the surrounding skyscrapers out of sand. The approximately 24-hectare lake, 1.2 km long and about 320 m wide, has become a small oasis of relaxation, but also of sport.

Hörde Castle, located in the Dortmund district of the same name, is a former moated castle whose origins date back to the 12th century. It sits on the shores of the artificially created Phoenix Lake 🌊, which was built to revitalize the disused Phoenix-Ost steelworks ⛓️. During World War II, Hörde Castle was partially destroyed and subsequently rebuilt. In 2001, the Phoenix-Ost plant ⛓️ was shut down, leading to the demolition of the production facilities. Starting in 2008, archaeological excavations were carried out on the grounds of Hörde Castle, followed by extensive roof and structural renovations. 📷 A great photo opportunity 📸

Dortmund's promenade is a place to see and be seen; it can get very crowded when the weather is nice. However, the bike path is really good, and when it's not too busy, you can really let loose here.
