After almost 100 years, the Royal Military Police is closing the doors of its stately building on the Scharnerweg in Maastricht. The Limburg-Zuid brigade will of course remain close to the garrison town where it all began. The locations Maastricht, Heerlen and Maastricht Aachen Airport are joining forces at a brand new complex in Beek. The history of Maastricht and the Royal Military Police goes back 200 years. In 1815, the first company of the Armed Forces - on present-day Dutch territory - was established in the city. The move into the building on the Scharnerweg was planned for the beginning of the 20th century, but the First World War threw a spanner in the works. The barracks were built anyway, although it took until 1925 for the KMar to start using the building - equipped with, among other things, ornamental anchors and a Dutch coat of arms.
