The Cumberland Clough descent is used by Motocross bikes and is very churned up most of the year. For a very competent gravel biker/MTB it is possible to ride but much better suited to full sus (or at least some suspension) due to large loose rocks, and often went slippery surfaces.

Saint Stephen, the patron saint of this church commonly known as the "Woodland Chapel," is one of the first seven deacons of the original Jerusalem church and the first martyr (martyr) of early Christianity. The church commemorates him on Boxing Day, December 26. When Stephen recounted his vision of the open heavens: "But he, full of the Holy Spirit, looked up into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God" (Acts 7:55), the people were so outraged that they drove him out of the city and stoned him.

While many routes feature significant elevation, some of the shorter, moderate loops around reservoirs might be suitable for families with older, more experienced children who are comfortable with some climbing. Always check the route details for distance and elevation before setting out with younger riders.
Access to these routes by public transport can be limited due to their rural nature near the Peak District. It's advisable to check local bus services to villages like Macclesfield Forest or Sutton itself, but a car is often the most convenient way to reach the starting points for many of these routes.
Many routes, particularly those starting near Macclesfield Forest or the reservoirs, have small car parks available. For example, routes like the White Peak Loop Gravel Path often begin near designated parking areas like St. Stephen's Chapel. Always check specific route details for recommended parking locations.
Spring and autumn generally offer the most pleasant conditions with milder temperatures and beautiful scenery. Summer can also be excellent, though routes may be busier. Winter cycling is possible but be prepared for colder weather, potential ice, and shorter daylight hours, especially in the higher elevations of the Peak District fringes.
While the routes themselves focus on traffic-free paths, many pass through or near small villages and hamlets where you can find local pubs or cafes for refreshments. It's always a good idea to plan your stops in advance, especially on longer routes, as amenities can be sparse in the more remote sections.
