If you are looking for that hidden, idyllic, beautiful bay, then this is the place. Lantic Bay, which is owned by the National Trust, is just a classic hidden gem tucked away between Fowey and Poplerro. It has a large bay with turquoise water and golden sands; simply a stunning place. It is not easy to get to its gorgeous beach though, it will take you about twenty minutes to reach the beach by a footpath from the National Trust car park east of Polruan.

There are 6 dog-friendly hiking trails detailed in this guide for the Polperro area. These routes range from moderate to difficult, offering varied terrain from coastal paths to woodland trails.
While many trails around Polperro involve steep ascents and descents, the village itself offers pleasant, easy strolls. For a more structured, moderate option, consider the St Ildierna's Parish Church – Lansallos Woodland Trail loop from Lansallos, which is shorter and less strenuous than the coastal paths.
The trails around Polperro are incredibly diverse. You'll encounter rugged coastal paths with dramatic cliffs and secluded coves, as well as inland routes winding through wooded valleys and alongside the River Pol. Expect a mix of well-trodden paths, some potentially muddy sections, and varying gradients, especially on the South West Coast Path.
Yes, many of the dog-friendly routes are circular, allowing you to start and end in the same location. Examples include the challenging Talland Bay – Talland Coastal Path loop from Polperro and the moderate View of Lantic Bay – Lantic Bay loop from Lansallos.
The trails offer breathtaking views of the Cornish coastline, including hidden coves like Lekerock Cove and Parsons Cove. You can also explore the historic Polperro Harbour, the dramatic Chapel Cliffs, and the panoramic viewpoints from The Warren. Many routes also pass through charming woodlands and offer glimpses of the River Pol.
Yes, several beaches and coves are accessible. Polperro has a small beach just outside the harbour, and nearby Talland Bay offers two coves with sandy shores and rock pools. Further along the coast, Lantic Bay is known for its beautiful sandy areas. Always check local signage for seasonal dog restrictions on beaches.
Spring and autumn are often ideal, offering milder temperatures and fewer crowds, which can be more comfortable for dogs. The vibrant wildflowers in spring and the rich colours of autumn foliage enhance the scenery. Summer can be beautiful but also busier and warmer, so early morning or late afternoon hikes are recommended. Winter walks can be dramatic, but coastal paths may be exposed to strong winds and rain.
Polperro is generally very dog-friendly. Many pubs and cafes in the village welcome well-behaved dogs, especially in their outdoor seating areas or designated indoor sections. It's always a good idea to check with the establishment beforehand, particularly during peak season.
Polperro village itself has limited parking, often requiring visitors to park in designated car parks on the outskirts and walk into the village. When planning your hike, check the starting point of your chosen route and research nearby parking options. Some trails, like those starting from Lansallos, may have smaller, more remote parking areas.
