Instinción is a lovely Alpujarra town. The street layout of the village corresponds to that of a town of Arab origin, also located on a hillside. Therefore, the winding layout of its streets, which are narrow and sometimes steeply sloping, is noteworthy. Several 19th-century bourgeois houses survive in these streets.

The Church of the Annunciation, built between the 16th and 17th centuries, stands out for its square floor plan and single nave. Inside, you'll find side chapels and a main chapel covered with a semicircular vault. The exterior combines brick and masonry, with a simple gabled roof. It's a good cultural attraction for those visiting the town and seeking to learn about its historical heritage.

This simple model of a Mudejar church, with a single nave drawer plan, was not always so minimalistic. Built in 1530, it managed to survive the Moorish rebellion, various fires and an earthquake, until it was moved to another location. However, during this journey, it lost the back section of the sanctuary and the main chapel, and was reduced to this simple temple. Inside, the old seventeenth-century roof armour has been restored. Behind its altar, raised by several steps, is the surprisingly modern main altarpiece, where the image of its patron, San Agapito, sits. Located on Calle Iglesia.

Although its Roman origins cannot be proven with certainty, it can be said that it was an Arab estate from the Middle Ages. During the Al-Andalus period, the place was known as Estançihum. During the Nasrid period, it formed part of the Taha de Marchena and was the fief of the al-Nayar family. With the Christian conquest, at the end of the 15th century, the Catholic Monarchs gave the entire Taha de Marchena to Don Gutierre de Cárdenas y Chacón. Before the Alpujarras War (1568-1570), Instinción had 90 Moorish inhabitants and two old Christians. After the war, the place was left deserted. It would later be repopulated with 84 inhabitants from Cadiz, Extremadura, Zamora and the Spanish Levante.
