This church is located on the first stage of the Chemin de Saint-Jacques, just past Le Puy-en-Velay, on the way to Saint-Privat-d'Allier. The name of Saint Christopher, to whom the church is dedicated, translates as "Christ-bearer." According to legend, he was a giant man who carried people across a river. One day, a small child called to him, and he carried it on his shoulders to the other side.
