Sluice no. 44 – Joigny‑sur‑Meuse A quiet Freycinet lock in the bend of the Meuse valley, just outside Joigny‑sur‑Meuse. The lock is situated between high Ardennes slopes and offers a beautiful moment to see the canal and the river running parallel. The old lock keeper's house and the open view of the valley make this a small but atmospheric stop on the Charleville‑Mézières – Givet route.

The section of the cycle path along the Meuse in the narrow valley of the Ardennes is beautiful.

The beautiful and strikingly modern town hall of the Mezières district. The adjacent forecourt was traffic-calmed a few years ago. There's also a drinking water fountain in the southwest corner of the square.

Stop to admire this deer farm on the banks of the Meuse. An ideal little fun break in the shade.

Sedan (Land of heroic deeds) The Ardennes massif is followed by a vast plain where the Meuse flows peacefully. This border region was at the crossroads of numerous invasions. Cities were fortified, castles became impregnable. History left a very heavy mark here. In the south, the landscape becomes softer, with a string of soothing undulations, a stark contrast to the battle that was fought there in 1870, in 1814, in 1940. Triggered? The walk starts from the book village of Redu. The walk is called Passage des Chèvres and is perfectly signposted. The start is near the ESA space centre and at Séchery you end up in a beautiful forest. During the hunting season you should definitely keep an eye on the dates of the hunt. The route runs almost entirely on natural paths.
