De Bijland is located in the natural area where three major rivers fork: the Rhine, the Waal, and the IJssel. Due to the open connection to the Rhine, De Bijland is easily accessible (kilometer marker 864). This location makes De Bijland particularly suitable as a starting point or stopover for excursions on Dutch waterways. But this area is also very suitable for other forms of recreation. De Gelderse Poort, for example, is an ideal area for hiking and cycling. There are several signposted hiking, cycling, and skating routes there.
