The old Friesenbrücke in Weener (the last bascule bridge in Europe) was destroyed by a cargo ship in December 2015. More than 10 years later, the rail connection between Leer and Winschoten can be resumed. The new bridge is one of the largest and most modern bascule bridges in Europe and replaces the nearly 100-year-old historic railway swing bridge.

Pleasant route along the dike, instead of 🚗 there are 🐑 to navigate around here. But the huts on the dikes are used to cyclists 🚴♂️ passing through and are not disturbed by it, so have fun & enjoy the fresh breeze
