The KEERSLUIS or lock from 1927 was part of the canalization of the river that once flowed freely into the Zuiderzee. The Nieuwe Lindedijk was constructed in 1828 as a direct consequence of the flood disaster of February 3 and 4, 1825. A single lock was built into the dike. This was converted into a lock in 1870. A service dwelling was built on the north bank, which is still recognizable today. During the canalization, the course of the Linde was moved forty meters further south at this location. In the new course, the current lock with a double passage was built when the Nieuwe Lindedijk was cut through.

If you cycle from the Steenwijk-Beukers canal, you will have meadows on your right, while after the J.v.Nassauweg you will see new nature developing on your left. If you cycle straight on at the Kooiweg, you will see a large decoy on your left. In my youth they called it the largest duck decoy in Europe. Further on you will cycle along the Gieterse Meer. The only lake in Weerribben-Wieden that has developed naturally.

The cycle path between Wanneperveen and Giethoorn takes you through a beautiful part of Wieden. Be careful at the bridge, because I advise anyone without steering skills to get off.

Nice wide and good rolling cycle path between Steenwijk and Ossenzijl. On nice days you have to share this cycle path with other cyclists. Adjust your speed then.
