A wide, paved dike path for pedestrians and cyclists. From Speerwerk westward toward Oostkapelle, the dike path is much more interesting, with a smaller, more winding path that leads through old oak groves.

One of the nicest things to do in Veere is to find peace on the paths that run over the city walls. The city of Veere is actually more of a village in terms of size, but it was granted city rights a long time ago. In the 16th century it was a flourishing and prosperous place, due to the wool trade with Scotland and you can see that in the many monumental buildings. During the time of Napoleon, Veere was attacked by the English, this failed, but to prevent another attack Veere was converted into a sturdy bastion. Now there is a beautiful walking route over the city walls and through the Stenen Beer, where you can experience the fortifications up close.
