The Lynde Shores Conservation Area is a conservation area that includes the Lynde Creek Marsh and Cranberry Marsh on Lake Ontario and was established in 1972. Due to its proximity to urban centers, the area receives many visitors throughout the year, including walkers, hikers, and bird lovers. Interestingly, feeding songbirds is permitted here - but only with plant seeds. On a part of the park grounds, extensive interventions are being carried out to restore a natural state. The vegetation has been completely removed from the area southwest of the parking lot, and the terrain has been modeled with two lakes. The fallow landscape leaves a peculiar impression; one can only hope that the project will be successful and visible by 2028. https://www.cloca.com/lynde-shores Visit on June 24, 2026

Access to Rouge Beach and the pedestrian bridge over the Rouge River on the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail will be closed from late fall 2025 until approximately spring 2027. As part of the Rouge Beach Improvements Project, the wetland within Rouge National Urban Park between Highway 401 and Lake Ontario will be enhanced, including the restoration of the Rouge marshland and the creation of a hiking trail connecting the southern portion of the wetland to the well-established portion north of Highway 401, the Mast Trail. Detour recommendations for the Waterfront Trail are posted on information signs and the Parks Canada website. https://www.pickering.ca/parks-recreation-culture/waterfront/#NoticeofRougeBeachandGreatLakesWaterfrontTrailClosure https://parks.canada.ca/pn-np/on/rouge/securite-safety/bulletins/60b30b1b-ad37-4883-9eb7-4ee3bed86804 (Visited June 15, 2026)

In the years 2018-2023, the area south of Frenchman's Bay on the shore of Lake Ontario was converted into an environmentally sensitive area, after it had been damaged by uncontrolled use in the preceding years. The owner, the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority, and the operator, the City of Pickering, wanted to create a balance between recreational use and the environment. https://www.pickering.ca/parks-recreation-culture/waterfront/rotary-frenchmans-bay-west-park/ https://www.mbtw.com/design-portfolio/rotary-frenchmans-bay-west-park-pickering-ontario (Visit on June 15, 2026)

Waterfront Trail follows the shoreline of Lake Ontario, and is part of the larger 900-kilometre Great Lakes Waterfront Trail, connecting waterfront parks, beaches, wetlands, and scenic viewpoints across the city. This paved, flat section follows a quiet stretch of shoreline, passing marshy areas, with plenty of panoramic lake views, and waterfront greenspace with a more relaxed, less developed feel than the busier central waterfront.
