The obelisk was founded by the inhabitants of Kamień Pomorski on the 300th anniversary of the birth of Ewald Jurgen Von Kleist - a scientist and inventor who was the dean of the Kamień Pomorski chapter in the years 1722-1747. On October 11, 1745, in Kamień Pomorski, he was the first in the world to test an electric capacitor (Kleist's bottle). A commemorative plaque placed on the obelisk informs about this epoch-making event. The obelisk is located in front of the manor known as the Dean's Curia, or Von Kleist Manor - where the discoverer lived during his stay in the city.
