Unless you come in high summer, you will see NOTHING but fog on the entire route. The first half of the route you walk through fog and strong wind blowing over the heights. Okay for people who also love rough nature, but it has nothing to do with a leisurely hike anymore. As I said: probably different in the period July/August.

To be done with sneakers or sandals with good soles. It is always cool, (even cold) because of the wind blowing.

Given the variable weather in the Azores, it's best to dress in layers. Comfortable, sturdy walking shoes are essential. We recommend bringing rain gear, even on sunny days, as conditions can change quickly. Don't forget water, snacks, sun protection (hat, sunscreen), and a small first-aid kit. For younger children, consider a carrier for longer routes.
The Azores are committed to preserving their natural beauty. While most family-friendly trails are generally accessible, it's always good practice to stay on marked paths, respect local flora and fauna, and carry out all your waste. For specific information on protected areas or any potential permit requirements for certain trails, you can consult the official Azores Natural Parks website: parquesnaturais.azores.gov.pt.
