The fountain in Sundern's town center is a small but charming focal point in the heart of the pedestrian zone. Centrally located at one of the busiest spots in the city center, it serves as a landmark for many walkers, cyclists, and hikers. A plaque on the fountain commemorates Sundern's history – a lovely detail that not only enhances the space but also offers a glimpse into local history. The fountain is therefore an ideal stop for guided tours, connecting everyday life, local history, and a pleasant atmosphere. Its central location also makes it a popular meeting point and starting point for excursions towards Lake Sorpe or into the surrounding hiking areas of the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge Nature Park. https://www.sundern.de/freizeit-tourismus

The parish church of St. John has shaped the center of Sundern for centuries and is one of the most significant sacred buildings in the region. The first church activities are documented as early as 1310, when a chapel with its own priest was established in Sundern, an indication of how early an independent community life developed here. The current church building is a three-nave hall church that has been extended several times over the course of time. The major renovation in 1935 was particularly formative, when the southern exterior wall was broken through and a Neo-Gothic extension was added. This created the spacious, six-bay house of worship that is still visible today. Inside, the church impresses with a Neo-Gothic high altar that integrates a Baroque cross as well as figures of John the Baptist and Mary Magdalene. The furnishings are complemented by four apostle figures, created in 2003 by the sculptor Maria Baumann – a beautiful example of the connection between tradition and modern sacred art. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sundern_(Sauerland)
