Southwest Shore of Sedlitzer See

Highlight (Segment) • Lake

The gravel road is about 8 kilometers long. The older part in the west is pretty washed out at the downcomer at a few hundred meters and has many potholes. Overall, the gravel road is easy to drive. Although it does not lead directly along the shore, you can still see the lake in many places. The Sedlitzer See is like so many other lakes in this area the remaining hole of a former lignite opencast mine, which is currently (2021) still being flooded. The recultivated and fortified banks around the lake are also impressive and show how a desolate open-cast desert can be turned into a green landscape with a lot of effort.

Here's a memorial stone for Sorno and Rosenfeld, victims of the open-cast mine. In Lieske am See. Caravan pitches are also available.

Two places that had to make way for open-cast mining. The memorial stone commemorates these two places.

It is still a gravel road but is easily navigable. Always along the shore. Let's hope that once the construction workers have finished working on the diverter from Lake Sedlitz, there will still be an asphalt strip.
