Mainparksee Mainaschaff

Highlight • Lake

Today's bathing lake was created in the mid-1950s when the Federal Motorway 3 from Frankfurt am Main to Würzburg was built. The extraction of sand and gravel was started, which was necessary for the construction of the Stockstadt motorway bridge and for the construction of the concrete roadway at the time. A total of 850,000 m³ of gravel was dredged in Mainaschaff, which was also used to build other bridges and the carriageway in the Spessart. The sand and gravel were brought to Hösbach by steam locomotives on their own field railway and transported from there to the individual construction sites by truck. This was enough for the section from Stockstadt to Rohrbrunn [2]. Over the years, the gravel pit filled with groundwater and the Mainparksee was created. In 1962 the lake was fenced in because of the wild bathing.

We spent countless hours at this lake as children. I love the Mainparksee, especially the Kleinostheim side with its sandy beach.

At first glance you might not think of a community that has seven high-rise buildings as landmarks, but a lot of rural character has been retained here. The information board reports on the creation of these high-rise buildings
