Yes, open again (Wed to Sun, status: May 2026) and certainly recommended for a beer and snacks, or to bridge a rain shower. However, one should not expect too much: small menu, simple dishes and relatively long waiting times. The hut's better times are probably a while ago and (unlike the decor) unfortunately have not kept up with the times.

Two or three marble benches for a short break. Idyllic setting with grassy ground by the Spree. The weir allowed water to flow to the mill located downstream.

The Bautzen Hammer Mill was built in 1493 by the city of Bautzen on the Spree River as a wire mill, i.e., for the production of wire using wire drawing machines. In 1740, the mill was expanded to include an iron hammer mill. Today, it is located north of the old town on the border of the Seidau district and serves as a flour mill, oil mill, and mustard mill. Not far away, in Ebersbach, the Spree originates. Here, the river is still pristine and is partially dammed.
