The port of Gargnano at Piazza Feltrinelli is a picturesque spot on the western shore of Lake Garda, serving as a popular meeting place for both boaters and cyclists. From here, magnificent views of the lake and the surrounding mountains await. Cyclists along the lakeside paths can take a break at the port, enjoy the maritime atmosphere, or stop off at the nearby cafés and restaurants. Surrounded by historic buildings such as Palazzo Feltrinelli, the port charmingly combines lakeside, culture, and sports, making it an ideal spot for a short rest or photo stop during a cycling tour on Lake Garda.

The road to Val San Michele has been asphalted since 2024. So you can drive almost all the way there by car. There is a gravel parking lot a few hundred meters before. But it is even nicer to walk or cycle there.

On hot summer days, it's the perfect location to cool down and take a break after a nice hike or mountain bike tour. Or just for fun... Very refreshing and crystal clear.

The Parco Naturale dell'Alto Garda Bresciano offers a vast network of trails, with over 350 running routes documented on komoot. These range from easy lakeside paths to challenging mountain runs, catering to all fitness levels.
The park features incredibly diverse terrain. You can find flat, scenic routes along the Lake Garda shoreline, undulating trails through vast hilly areas, and more demanding mountain paths in the interior. Expect a mix of Mediterranean vegetation near the lake and dense woods of oaks, beeches, and pines as you move inland.
Yes, the park offers a good selection of easier routes. There are over 35 easy trails, many of which are gentle lakeside strolls or paths through less strenuous hilly areas. These are perfect for beginners or those looking for a relaxed run.
Absolutely. For experienced runners, the park boasts over 180 difficult trails. These often involve significant elevation changes, traversing mountainous areas with peaks like Monte Caplone, and following former military routes such as the 'Northern Street' at altitudes up to 1,900 meters. One such challenging route is the Valley of the Paper Mills – Gargnano on Lake Garda loop from Navazzo, which covers 14.6 miles with substantial elevation gain.
Many of the running routes in the park are designed as loops, allowing you to start and finish at the same point. For example, the moderate Trail With a View of Vesio – Picnic Area in Valle di Bondo loop from Vesio offers scenic views and returns to your starting location. Another option is the Vesio Bike and Vespa Rental loop from Voiandes, which explores the hilly terrain around Vesio.
The park is rich in natural beauty and historical sites. You might encounter the dramatic, fjord-like shores of Lake Valvestino, and if water levels are low, even the submerged ruins of the ancient Lignano Customs House. Other notable features include the botanical interest of Monte Caplone, the pristine Droanello Valley, and various waterfalls. The View of Musaga and Lake Garda loop from Navazzo offers stunning vistas.
Yes, the park is renowned for its spectacular viewpoints. Many trails, especially those in the hilly and mountainous areas, provide breathtaking panoramas of Lake Garda and the surrounding landscape. The 'Terrace of Shiver' near Tremosine and the pilgrimage church Santuario della Madonna di Montecastello in Tignale are well-known for their vistas. You can also find specific viewpoints like the Termen Viewpoint along some trails.
The area is highly rated by the komoot community, with an average score of 4.5 stars from over 600 reviews. Runners frequently praise the diverse landscapes, from the Mediterranean charm of the lake shore to the wild Alpine interior, and the extensive network of trails that cater to all abilities. The opportunity to experience 'fitness in nature' amidst such varied environments is a common highlight.
Yes, the park offers many family-friendly options. The easier trails, particularly those along the Lake Garda shoreline or through less steep valleys, are suitable for families. These paths provide a great way to enjoy the natural beauty without overly strenuous activity. Look for routes marked as 'easy' on komoot for the best family experiences.
Many trails within the Parco Naturale dell'Alto Garda Bresciano are suitable for running with dogs, especially those away from crowded areas and through the extensive woodlands. It's always advisable to keep your dog on a leash, particularly in areas with wildlife or near livestock, and to check local regulations for specific trail restrictions.
The park offers good running conditions for much of the year due to its varied climate zones. Spring and autumn are ideal, with pleasant temperatures and vibrant scenery. Summer provides warm weather, especially along the lake, while higher mountain trails offer cooler air. Winter running is possible, particularly at lower elevations, though some higher routes may be affected by snow.
Beyond its natural allure, the park encompasses several cultural and historical attractions. You can explore museums like the Don Pietro Porta Botanical Museum or the Museum of Ancient Crafts in Valvestino. The Limonaia del Castèl in Limone sul Garda and the Valley of the Paper Mills in Toscolano Maderno, showcasing ancient industrial buildings, are also points of interest that can be combined with your running excursions.
