Amazing views of Mount Erjos and Mount Teide. A spectacular hike with stunning views of the surrounding nature. Highly recommended and interesting! 👍🏻 At 3,718 meters, Mount Teide is the highest mountain in Spain. The ascent to the dormant volcano is short, but can be strenuous for those with limited experience. From the summit, there are magnificent panoramic views of the Canary Islands. It's highly recommended to book your Teide National Park access pass and cable car ticket in advance.

Mountain biking in the Teide region offers a diverse range of terrain. You'll encounter extraordinary volcanic landscapes with craters, petrified lava flows, and unique rock formations, often described as 'lunar' or 'Martian'. As you descend from higher altitudes, the environment transitions into extensive pine forests, providing a stark contrast and different riding surfaces, from gravel roads to dirt paths.
Yes, there are options for various skill levels. While many routes involve significant elevation changes, komoot lists 8 easy mountain bike trails in the broader Teide National Park area. These routes often utilize scenic roads or less technical paths, allowing beginners to enjoy the stunning volcanic scenery.
Direct mountain biking on trails within the core Teide National Park is largely prohibited to protect its unique ecosystem. However, the surrounding areas, particularly the Corona Forestal, offer an extensive network of trails and roads that capitalize on the park's dramatic scenery and descent opportunities. You can also enjoy scenic road cycling through the park on its designated roads.
The region is rich with natural wonders. You can expect to see iconic formations like Roque Cinchado and other Natural Monuments sculpted by erosion. The vast Las Cañadas del Teide caldera, with its unique rock formations, is a central feature. You might also pass by interesting geological sites like Cueva del Hielo (Ice Cave) or other caves.
Absolutely. The region is known for its significant elevation changes, allowing for long, exhilarating rides. For instance, the View of Mount Teide – Entrance to Vilaflor de Chasna loop from Portillo de la Villa is a difficult 61.3-mile (98.7 km) trail with over 2,600 meters of elevation gain, offering extensive views across the volcanic landscape. Another challenging option is the View of Mount Teide – View of Montaña de Guaza loop from Vilaflor de Chasna, spanning over 100 km.
The komoot community highly rates the mountain biking experience here, with an average score of 4.5 stars from over 300 reviews. Riders frequently praise the unique volcanic landscapes, the thrilling long descents from high altitudes, and the varied terrain that transitions from barren volcanic rock to lush pine forests.
Yes, many routes are designed as loops, allowing you to start and finish at the same point. An example is the moderate Volcanes de Fasnia – Corral del Niño loop from Parque nacional, which navigates through volcanic features. For a longer option, consider the difficult Corral del Niño – Pino Gordo de Vilaflor loop from Mirador de El Alto de Guamaso, leading through pine forests.
While the core park trails are restricted, the surrounding areas offer family-friendly options, especially on paved roads or less technical paths. Some guided tours also cater to families, providing transport up to the park and guided downhill rides on suitable routes. Look for routes designated as 'easy' on komoot for more relaxed family outings.
The Teide region offers good mountain biking conditions for much of the year due to Tenerife's mild climate. However, the best time is generally from autumn through spring (October to May) when temperatures are cooler at higher elevations. Summers can be very hot, especially at lower altitudes, so early morning rides are recommended then. Be aware that winter can bring snow to the highest peaks, temporarily affecting access to some routes.
Access to the Teide region is possible by car, with various parking areas available at viewpoints and trailheads around the park's perimeter. Public transport options, primarily bus services, also connect some coastal towns to the park, though carrying a mountain bike on these can be challenging. Many mountain biking routes, like the El Tabonal Negro Viewpoint – Start of the Llano de Ucanca loop from Portillo de la Villa, start from accessible points like Portillo de la Villa.
