From the southeastern shore of Lake Malchow, there is an impressive view of the former Malchow Monastery, situated on a small hill on the opposite shore. The striking red brick buildings with their tall church towers dominate the town's panorama and, when the water is calm, are atmospherically reflected in the lake. The former Magdalene Convent, later a Cistercian monastery and finally a noble women's convent, is now an important cultural monument. The viewing point on the lakeshore is easily accessible via the cycling and hiking path and invites you to take a short rest with a view of the historic skyline of Old Malchow.

My first glimpse of Lake Fleesensee—impressed by its beauty and size. Right next to this spot on the beach is the Seewirtschaft restaurant with a fantastic view of the lake. If you're nearby, just stop by and enjoy the moment.

Malchow is wonderful to explore by bike and offers ideal conditions for cycling. This charming island town delights with its blend of nature, history, and relaxed atmosphere. A good starting point is Malchow's town harbor, with its view of the swing bridge, which opens hourly and is a small experience in itself. From there, a well-developed network of cycle paths leads along Lake Malchow and on through wooded landscapes and tranquil fields. A tour around Lake Fleesen or a detour into the "Blüthenmoor" nature reserve is particularly worthwhile, where, with a bit of luck, you might spot cranes or white-tailed eagles. Cultural attractions can also be easily incorporated, such as the DDR Museum or the historic monastery church on the monastery island. For a relaxing break, there are cafés and restaurants with lake views – the outdoor terraces right by the swing bridge are especially lovely. The routes are mostly flat and well signposted, making Malchow suitable for both ambitious cyclists and those who prefer a leisurely ride. Those who don't bring their own bicycle will find numerous rental stations on site, including those offering e-bikes. This makes cycling around Malchow a truly enjoyable experience amidst water, forests, and expansive views.

Malchow is a wonderful place to explore by bike. The charming old town is located on an island in Lake Malchow and is accessible via a historic swing bridge, which opens several times a day for boat traffic – a technical and visual highlight. Also particularly worth seeing is the former monastery with its organ museum, which offers a beautiful view over the lake. Those who want to enjoy nature can take a relaxing ride around Lake Malchow on well-developed bike paths or continue to the nearby Fleesensee and even to Waren (Müritz). The surrounding area also offers connections to longer tours through the Nossentiner/Schwinzer Heide Nature Park. Bike rentals, e-bike charging stations, and bike-friendly accommodations make Malchow an ideal starting point for varied bike tours in one of the most beautiful lake landscapes in Northern Germany.

Malchow Monastery is located opposite the town, on the south side of the lake. It was originally a Magdalene monastery, which, after being first founded in Röbel before 1274, became a Cistercian monastery in 1295 and found its permanent location here. Like other women's monasteries in Mecklenburg, it was not completely dissolved by the Reformation, but was converted into a Protestant women's convent. The cemetery and Engelscher Garden, a park for strolling, are located close to the monastery. The centerpiece is the church, which also houses the main part of the Mecklenburg Organ Museum. The Mecklenburg Organ Museum is unique in the eastern states. Regular demonstrations provide insight into the world of organ music. The monastery's former refectory also displays works from the estates of artists who have a special connection with the town of Malchow, who were born or worked here, such as Rudolf Gahlbeck, Siegmar Dittner, and Friedrich Franz Pingel.
