Musala Peak

Highlight • Summit

Beautiful views but it is not so hard to reach the highest peak in the Balkans so it is usually overcrowded. There are alternative routes to Musala peak that are not so common (e.g. Musalenski venets - through Markudzhitsite and Aleko peak) where you can enjoy the nature :)

Seven Rila Lakes

Highlight • Lake

It used to be very quiet and restful place, but now it is fully overcrowded.
The water in all lakes was pure as a drop, but now some lakes grew green :(

There are several options if you want to reach the 7 rila lakes from Pionerska hut:
1) on foot
2) by lift (usually there is 30-60 minutes delay in queue/line)
3) by offroad jeep (you should climb last 100 meters to upper lift station on foot)

Of course there are other options: from Rila monastery/Malyovitsa peak; Ivan Vazov hut; etc...

Malyovitsa Hut

Nice place for walks with very interesting paths nearby.
Keep in mind that the region there has very high avalanche risk due to the terain!

Musala Hut

Our 2-week hike across the entire Rila and Pirin Mountains is a long time ago - but unforgettable! Magnificent mountains, untouched nature, friendly and helpful people ... I always like to think back. I would be curious to see how things are going there today ...

Beautiful views, not so overcrowded because of the difficulty to reach the peak.

Fantastic panoramic view! If you climb from the Malyovista hut you should be in good shape and have mountain experience.

The climb to the hut is technically an easy hiking trail. The path is quite wide and not very steep. Since you are in the mountains, it is of course rocky.

Nice view, but very busy. I found the climb from Yastrebets a bit boring in places: relatively flat at the beginning for about 3km, then uphill through boulders.

In the small hut there is a small selection of vegetarian dishes. Unfortunately everything is served in disposable dishes 😒. You take the rubbish back to the valley with you

Very helpful hut in beautiful surroundings! Lots of people use it as a basecamp for longer trips, and it's also a good opportunity for refilling food and water.
