When you are standing at the Schmilkaer Großvaterstuhl, the "background" – i.e. the massive rock faces behind you – is part of the Affensteine or the Oberer Terrassenweg. The actual "chair" is the small, worked pulpit on which you sit. It is therefore one of the few places in the region where the name really goes back to a "piece of furniture" made by human hands and not just to the imagination when looking at rock formations.
