The Marchesale Castriota Palace, in the center of Melpignano, is a noble residence built in 1636 at the behest of Giorgio Castriota, of the Marquises of Botrugno, obtained by incorporating parts of the ancient feudal castle, of which watchtowers and ramparts are still visible. Inside there is a garden with a fountain in the center of checkerboard-designed paths, a pergola, and stone benches.

The bike ride that took me to Torcito Park was born from a desire to discover this corner of paradise I'd heard so much about. Upon arriving, I found an enchanting park, immersed in nature, with historic farmhouses and other valuable structures. Scenic trails and picnic areas make it the perfect place for a relaxing break.

A beautiful castle with a suggestive façade adorned with numerous statues. Inside the very interesting exhibition of Giuseppe Palumbo, the photographer on a bicycle who documented Salento between 1907 and 1959 and in the various rooms an exhibition path with original images, articles and studies dedicated to the phenomenon of tarantism. A short distance away in the enchanting historic center of Corigliano d'Otranto is the church of San Nicola Vescovo with a valuable mosaic depicting the tree of life.

In the center of Melpignano, Piazza San Giorgio is named after the patron saint of the city. The mother church of the same name overlooks it and has a portico that is quite rare in Puglia. It is one of the places where the famous popular music event called "Notte della Taranta" takes place.
