October 20, 2026, Basilica of San Vitale

The Basilica of San Vitale in Ravenna is an impressive testament to early Christian and Byzantine art and has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1996. Even from the outside, it fascinates with its unusual geometric shape, in which Roman and Byzantine architectural elements combine harmoniously. The interior, however, is particularly impressive: golden apse mosaics, ornate capitals, and the imposing vault create a unique atmosphere. In the presbytery, one also discovers a circular marble labyrinth, which symbolizes the soul's pilgrimage to the Holy Land. During my visit, I was especially touched by the interplay of history, spirituality, and magnificent art. The proximity to the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia makes the tour of Ravenna even more special. San Vitale is not an ordinary building, but a place where the past comes alive and every glance reveals new details.

October 17, 2026, Argine degli Angeli

The "Damm der Engel" / "L'Argine degli Angeli" is a spectacular cycling and hiking trail. It runs from the Bellocchio canal for about 6 km over the water of the Comacchio lagoon on a dam with a fine gravel surface and a width of about two meters. At the start, the path seems never-ending. The further you cycle into and over the lagoon, the wider and more expansive the lagoon lake becomes. Magical water reflections alternate to the right and left of the dam, and sometimes cloud formations look like they were painted. A route where there is no room for haste; pausing and enjoying is the order of the day… Rating: particularly valuable and unique… Photos speak louder than words!

The bridge over the Bellocchio canal is practically the transition from the mainland to the Valli to complete the circular route or the path through the waters of the Valli.

Seawater, sun and wind to produce the famous sweet salt of Cervia which until 1960, before the introduction of processing machines, was carried out with shovels, rakes, baskets and wheelbarrows in 150 salt pans; at the end of the 80s, thanks to retired volunteers, sons of old willing salt workers, the only remaining salt pan was cleaned and put back into operation and produced 600 quintals of salt; its processing dates back to Roman times, as demonstrated by the discovery of a lock and other artifacts from the 3rd century BC; in the Papal era, it even seems that Cervia was demolished and rebuilt closer to the sea to make salt production more functional.
