The bridge over the Rubicone is an ancient Istrian stone bridge built in Roman times along the Rubicone river and is located in Savignano sul Rubicone, in Emilia-Romagna, already an ancient Roman center of Compitum, built at the intersection with the Via Regina which from Sarsina (Roman municipality of Sassina) led to Ravenna (Roman municipality of 89 BC) and the Via Emilia, built by the consul Marco Emilio Lepido in 187 BC. The Roman bridge consists of three large stone arches, resting on two central pillars. The whole thing is made up of large blocks of Istrian stone, a compact and very resistant limestone and crystalline stone that does not exist in the area, and which comes from the Istrian peninsula. Therefore Augustus, who, in his reorganization of the Roman (Italic) regions, had partly incorporated Istria into the Regio .
