You can easily reach the lake via well-developed cycle paths along the Kalksee or via the Löcknitz route. Along the shore, you'll find quiet swimming spots, picnic areas, and viewpoints such as the Schwarzer Stubben and Springeberg, which divide the lake into a northern ("Enger Flaken") and a southern ("Weiter Flaken") half.

The Herzfeld church was built around 1250 from regular fieldstone blocks as a so-called complete type with a tower. This means that the semi-circular apse, the choir, the nave and the tower were built in one go. This can be seen very clearly on the outer walls. The three strong supporting pillars on the tower were obviously added later, as their masonry is much more irregular. They were probably necessary for static reasons.
