In 1925 Carlo Semenza founded the section of the Italian Alpine Club of Vittorio Veneto, to which the refuge belongs. Two weeks after his death, in December 1961, the Council approved the construction of a refuge in his memory at Forcella Lastè. The works began the following year, in June 1962. The official inauguration took place on September 22, 1963. On June 26, 1983, with the inauguration of the winter bivouac, the name of the refuge was changed to Carlo and Massimo Semenza.
