The Piersanti Mattarella park, formerly Giardino Inglese, is a public park in Palermo designed in 1851 by the architect Giovan Battista Filippo Basile. Basile followed a very fashionable scheme in the second half of the 19th century, namely not to create a measured and geometric space (the so-called "Italian garden") but following the natural shapes and morphology of the terrain, typical of the "English garden". To make the atmosphere even more suggestive and exotic, according to the taste of the period, plants from all over the world were introduced, chosen in collaboration with the Palermitan botanist Vincenzo Tineo. The garden comprises two parts, separated by the viale della Libertà: the wood and the parterre, where stands what was anciently called "Villa Garibaldi". The man is now very hostile and keeps a pack of aggressive dogs. I was massively attacked and bitten in the calf today. Anyone doing the tour should give the lighthouse a wide berth or preferably forgo the last ascent altogether.

Don’t visit this place. The Eremit’s dogs noticed us, when taking the detour to across the stones. A couple of minutes later the Eremit was throwing stones at us. We were completely silent and respectful with the environment. However it seems like the Eremit does not want to have any visitors.
