It is one of the many quarries in the Berici Hills (known as 'priàre' in the Venetian dialect) for the extraction of the prized Vicenza stone, widely used and appreciated in architecture. Some quarries (like this one) have been abandoned; others are still active; and still others have been converted for various purposes. Note the stone pillars that the miners left behind to prevent the ceiling from collapsing. https://www.colliberici.it/it/i-colli-berici/societa/la-attivita-estrattive

Beautiful stretch of shore with vegetation that offers shelter to numerous birds such as ducks, swans, hens, etc. Excellent perhaps at dawn for birdwatching.

From this panoramic point near Contrada Rappo, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Vicenza woods and glimpse Lake Fimon. Small and shallow, the latter is located between the hamlets of Pianezze and Lapio in the municipality of Arcugnano: some archaeological finds dating back to the Neolithic were found on its banks.
