October 16, 2025, Parish Church of St. James (Pfarrkirche zum Hl. Jakobus)

The parish church of St. James the Greater – Chiesa Madre di San Giacomo – stands on a site that was already a place of worship in pre-Christian times. A Romanesque chapel and a Gothic church were built over by 1775, giving rise to the present late Baroque church. Upon entering, visitors are greeted by a magnificent world of art: one of the most beautiful Rococo churches in the diocese. The Madonna on the high altar and the three female figures on the south side altar date back to the Gothic period. Next to the main entrance to the church, on the south side of the tower, is a large fresco of St. Christopher. It dates from the end of the 15th century and depicts the saint carrying the Christ Child across a river, in whose waters all sorts of strange creatures frolic.

The pass is beautifully nestled between the rolling meadows of Lüsen to the north and the Pütia meadows with the steep walls of the eponymous mountain (Sas de Pütia / Peitlerkofel) to the south. From here, you have access to one of South Tyrol's most precious natural landscapes:
