The Aartal Cycle Path begins at its source in Idstein-Orlen, right on the Limes – so history is part of it from the very beginning! You start at the source, where the Aar is still a lively brook, and follow it for almost 70 kilometers to its mouth in Diez on the Lahn. The charm is unbeatable: At first you go through the Taunus mountains, where you gain a few meters in altitude, but as soon as you reach the old railway line, the mode changes to pure leisurely cycling. Then you roll almost flatly alongside the Aar and the disused Aartal Railway. It's like a journey through time: you rush through small train stations (now rest areas!), enjoy the peace and quiet, and forget the traffic. This path is ideal for switching off and clocking up the kilometers until you finally greet Ardeck Castle and roll to the finish in Diez. Pure nature and nostalgia flow!
