Parcines Waterfall (Partschinser Wasserfall)

Highlight • Waterfall

At 97 meters, the Zielbach falls at the Partschinser waterfall with impressive power into the depths. An incessant series of water curtains rushes over the edge of the rock, shimmering in all the colors of the rainbow when exposed to the sun. Most of the water masses are in the time of snowmelt between May and July or after heavy rains. In the evening at around 8 pm the waterfall leads the most water, since it takes five hours from the melting point in the upper target valley to here.

Passeier Cycle Path - spa town of Merano to St. Leonhard in Passeier
The 19 km long Passeier Valley cycle path leads from the spa town of Merano to St. Leonhard in Passeier
The Passeier Valley cycle path is mostly flat and along a slight incline through the wonderful landscapes of the Passeier Valley. The refreshing Passer accompanies the cyclist along the entire cycle path. The starting point is the spa town of Merano: from the thermal spa square, we head east through the Elisabeth Park into the Passeier Valley. Continuing along the right bank of the river, we soon leave the city. The path is still asphalted here, later it becomes a gravel path.
To the right above us we see Schenna with the castle, the church and the mausoleum of Archduke Johann. On the left are the villages of Tirol, Kuens and Riffian. We have already covered half the route past Saltaus. We cross the river several times as the cycle path changes sides. At Quellenhof we pass the golf course and continue to St. Martin.
When we arrive in St. Leonhard in Passeier, we have reached the end of the cycle path. On the way there we pass the Sandwirt, the birthplace of the legendary freedom fighter Andreas Hofer. Here the MuseumPasseier awaits us with all its special features and valuable witnesses to the history of Tyrol. Worth seeing!

Töll Hydroelectric Power Station

Highlight • Structure

Toell hydroelectric power station
The Töll hydroelectric power plant, the first large-scale power plant in South Tyrol and built from 1897 on the initiative of the mayors of Meran and Bozen and based on a project by the Munich engineer Oscar von Miller, went online on April 5, 1898. The sawmill of the father of the probably most famous citizen of Parcines, Peter Mitterhofer, our inventor of the typewriter, once stood here. The water of the Adige is contained by a 16 m long rifle brigade at the height of the Töll fraction, a unique historical monument. The water reaches the surge tank with a total volume of 6000 m3, which is located at an altitude of 496 m above sea level, directly above the power plant, via a 480 m long gravity tunnel. Here the water of the Adige is dammed up and here the sluice house stands on three brick columns clad with porphyry stones, built in 1925 to operate the sluice. In 2003 it was renovated, preserving its original style, like the former "Zieglbrugg" (so named because it was once covered). An arched bridge is said to have stood at this point in Roman times, as documented by documents from the 14th and 16th centuries that are kept in the Johanneum in Innsbruck.
In addition to the two marble plaques commemorating the construction of the power plant, one from the K&K period and the other from the fascist period on the occasion of its enlargement, the Peter Mitterhofer cultural hiking trail in the direction of Rabland, as well as the Marlinger Waalweg and very close to the Algunder Waalweg.

The Partschinser Waalweg is one of the oldest Waalweg in the Burggrafenamt. This was built in the 15th century by the counts of Spikeburg and is therefore half a millennium old. Today it is still used to irrigate the Partschins orchards and is surrounded by sparse birch groves and rich vegetation. At the eastern end of the Waalweg you can see a prehistoric residential stone and a prehistoric bowl stone (Copper Age).
