In the Prinsenpark, there are now only three small heath patches left. These patches contain an important part of the unique fauna and flora of the Prinsenpark. Therefore, the green domain decided to expand the heath area by connecting the heath patches. On this connection, a forest with low natural value now grows. After felling the trees, the topsoil will be scraped off, exposing the seed bank. The old heath seeds found here may still be viable. After the initial development of the heath, the plot will be managed by periodic grazing with Kemp vzw's Kempish heath sheep. This is to counteract overgrowth of grass and trees. (HLN)
