At the crossroads of the Oude Leuvensebaan, Gemengde Brigadestraat and Rozedelstraat and at the foot of the Galgenberg, stands a pollarded small-leaved lime tree (Tilia cordata). The tree marks the meeting point of the four roads here, and a Mary shrine is attached to the trunk of the tree. @https://inventaris.onroerenderfgoed.be/erfgoedobjecten/304352

Descent or ascent, of course... the vineyards of Domein Kluisberg are located on the higher steep slopes with plenty of iron-rich sandstone from the Kluisberg. The Kluisberg wine estate of the Vanlaer family works mainly with traditional varieties such as Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris. More information about Domein Kluisberg can be found here: https://www.kluisberg.be/index.html.

The deepest hollow way - not just of Limburg, but of Flanders - is located in Loksbergen and is no less than 12m deep. Due to erosion, the underlying iron sandstone has been exposed here. This rust-brown rock is characteristic of the Demer Valley and was already used in the Middle Ages as a building stone for numerous large and small structures. In places where this iron sandstone was easily accessible, the hill was excavated to mine building stone. The same happened in some hollow ways like this one in Loksbergen. Along the edges of the eroded gully, blocks of iron sandstone were quarried and then transported to a nearby construction site.

Badgers prefer to live on the steep slopes of hollow ways, as is also the case here. They like to dig their tunnel systems into the steep, overgrown walls of the hollow way. The sett can grow over the years into a large underground structure.
