"Searching for Utopia" is a beautiful and large artwork by Jan Fabre. The turtle, originally installed on the beach during the Beaufort Triennial in 2003, appears to float above the waterbed. It was later moved to the city center, where it can still be seen today. Impressive! Source: https://top.vlaanderen/kunst/searching-for-utopia-jan-fabre-nieuwpoort-belgie/

We recognize a keyboard, but without the keys. Does this point to an inability to express an image in language? Is our language inherently limited? Or does a sea of unknown possibilities lie open to us? Today, we connect with the world digitally, which offers both advantages and disadvantages. According to some, this leads to alienation from others, while for others it creates new possibilities and a more inclusive society. This artwork was created thanks to the collaboration of students from VTI Bruges, with the artist providing digital guidance. Through the concrete structure, you can see the sea on one side and the urban landscape on the other. Thus, it also resembles a stripped-down apartment building. This work is conceived as a counterpart to Jorge Macchi's 2023 work, "Dictionary of Dead Words": a wall installation with niches containing letters, like the initials on the side of a dictionary page. Humans have a deep desire to collect words and knowledge and compile encyclopedias. Source: https://www.dekust.be/beaufort-all-words-world

Centuries ago, one of the two mills of Ten Duinen Abbey stood here, and today stands the South Abbey Mill. The current South Abbey Mill of Koksijde dates from 1773 and originally stood in Houtem near Veurne (the Lootvoet mill). It was demolished there in 1951-1952 and rebuilt in Koksijde in 1953. Miller Patrick Geryl remains the only remaining full-time miller in Belgium. Anyone who visits the mill will be captivated by his every word: he'll happily give you a tour of his habitat: the South Abbey Mill. Feel the wind play with the mill, see how the grain is ground into flour, and smell the history. Highly recommended! Practical information: Individuals can visit the South Abbey Mill during regular opening hours from April to September. €2 for an adult, €1 for minors. Mill address: Jaak Van Buggenhoutlaan 120 (near the Abbey Museum). Intrigued? Click through to https://www.tenduinen.be/nl/beklim-de-zuid-abdijmolen
