May 1, 2026, DNT Pyttbua Cabin

Built in 1925, Puttbua is a large self-service cabin that sits high on a moraine and enjoys a glorious view towards Karitinden’s shapely peak. It’s a great starting point for the Hesteskoen (Horseshoe), a grand traverse of Karitinden, Høgstolen and Puttegga, three of the four highest peaks in the Tafjordfjella range.

Located in the heart of the spectacular Romsdalfjella mountains, Måsvassbu is an exciting place to stay the night. It's a self-service cabin that's unlocked during the peak summer season and locked during the winter – you'll need to acquire the DNT key during this time. The immense Klauva massif rises to the south-east, home to Kyrkjetaket, one of Norway's finest alpine mountains. Kyrkjetaket's Østeggen (east ridge) in particular is an absolutely stunning line but requires serious scrambling skills in summer and mountaineering nous in winter.

Reindalseter is something of a hub where the Tafjordfjella hiking network is concerned. This charming complex has a cafe, electricity, drying rooms and the opportunity to take a hot shower. With its ancient pines and vibrant wildlife, Reindalen itself is a delight; the hike to Zakariasvatnet and the roaring Reindalsfossen is particularly beautiful. Meanwhile, the cabin is the ideal base for summit hikes to Naushornet and Svartegga.
