Åndalsnes Railway Chapel

Highlight • Religious Site

"The Church on Rails". Welcome to Norway's first and only railway band - probably the only one in the world - parked at the terminus of the Rauma Railway. This beautiful, old and venerable railway wagon, a gift from NSB, has served many travelers for a long time. In a world full of unrest and noise, it should now, as a small chapel on rails, offer people peace and quiet. The Åndalsnes Railway Chapel was consecrated on June 10, 2003 by Bishop Odd Bondevik in the presence of King Harald and Queen Sonja.

Åndalsnes Gondola Station

Highlight • Rest Area

The drive up only takes a few minutes, but the view is simply indescribable, even if the price is quite high. There is also a great hiking trail to walk back down.

Mardalsfossen Waterfall

Highlight • Waterfall

If you dare to come closer, we will feel the power and the force of the water, so take rain jackets with you and don't leave them in the car because the sun is shining, you will need them.
But it is incredible to feel the waterfall like this. 🤗

Øksendal Tunnel Bypass Road

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Not for the faint hearted, this bypass requires a hefty climb in either direction — though it is a bit steeper when riding from Øksendal to Sunndalsøra. While technically a one way street the road is basically empty of any traffic.

That said this is the only way to avoid the tunnel and the views more than make up for the climb. Treat yourself to a private stretch of highway and enjoy some amazing alpine glacier views when riding from Øksendal to Sunndalsøra.

Romsdalseggen Ridge

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Tur du må gå! That's how the Norwegians would express it and hit the nail on the head. Hardly a hike in Åndalsnes is more popular, but also more exhausting, than the hike across the Romsdalseggen. Enjoy the view down into the Romsdal, experience the feeling that comes when you stand unsecured on a steep ledge but do not overestimate yourself, it goes really steeply downhill!

I have tried that bypass but i would not reccomend it unless you have a mountain bike so. There is a 300m segment with fallen rocks from the mountain and terrible road. The rest of the road is OK, except some fallen trees and some glass that is spread on some portions along the way.

If the weather is good you can drive to the Romsdalen, otherwise it is an expensive pleasure

The Railway Chapel (Togkapellet) is located directly between the cable car and the train station and can be visited.

We didn't take a gondola ride because we didn't want to spend almost €50 per person.

Gondola lift to the Nesaksla mountain with a good 700 m altitude. Great viewpoint, but also very expensive!
