Hjelmkollen Fortress is a Norwegian fort from the early 20th century, built between 1902 and 1903 to secure the border with Sweden and the mouth of the Iddefjord. After the dissolution of the union between Norway and Sweden in 1905, the fortress was demilitarized under the Karlstad Agreement. Today, the site is under the protection of the Norwegian Armed Forces and is a ventilated lookout point overlooking the old and new Svinesund Bridge.

Ormtjernhytta belongs to and is operated by the TTIF. It has its own cabin management. The cabin is located by the water and in a scenic environment, about 1 kilometer from road 21. Ormtjernhytta seems to be a very well-visited sports cabin. Tables and benches are available by the water and in the sunny area. The cabin has wheelchair-accessible access to the cabin itself and to the toilets. In the surrounding area, there are marked hiking trails and an illuminated path. There is a large parking lot on the main road (at the toll station) and a large parking lot directly at the cabin. In addition, there is a large parking lot in Krusseter (by the kiosk/beach) and a smaller one in Blæsemoen (Rv. 21). Around the lake, there is a beautiful circular trail about 0.8 kilometers long. The start/finish is at the cabin. From mid-September to Easter, the cabin is open every Sunday from 10:00 to 15:00. Food and drinks can be purchased in the cabin. In good weather, the cabin is also open during the Christmas and winter holidays. If possible, ice skating rinks are set up on the ice in winter. Here, young and old can have fun in good weather. During opening hours, skates in various sizes and skating penguins are available for rent in the cabin.

The opposite of Simon & Garfunkel's ballad, this is about as calm a scene as there is. Enjoy the peace and water views as you whizz across the bridge.
