The Finnes are impressive rocky peaks that rise about 25 meters above the ground. They form a stunning group of towers between which you can admire different panoramic views.

This short section is very steep and therefore equipped with a handrail to help you climb up. It will be particularly useful in rainy weather, as the ground is composed of smooth rock slabs and earth, which can be very slippery.

This trailhead is marked by a red sign that you can't miss. There is also a parking lot nearby. Enjoy the first from here to the top of this hike that is popular because it offers a unique view of stunning mountain formations.

Horsdal is the starting point for the excellent hike up Sandhornet. Its ferry port has links to nearby Bødo, Nordland's administrative centre. There's also parking and a bus stop – the island of Sandhornøya is connected to the mainland by the Sandhornøy Bridge.

Some claim the trek up to Sandhornet to be the finest in the Gildeskål region. The peak certainly draws the eye with its pointed summit. The views reward your efforts with Lofoten, Steigen, Værøy, Røst, Træna on the Helgeland coast and Svartisen all visible from the top on a clear day.

The parking situation directly in Finnes at the start of the hike is very bad and only a few normal cars can find space at all. Instead, we found a nice spot for our camper a little outside the village (plus code for location => XPCV+34V Finnes, Norway). It is directly below the rocky peaks and can even be seen from above. From the parking lot you can even access the sea over the rocks and cool off after the hike.

From the peak of Sandhornet (993 m elevation), you can see nearly all of Salten on a clear day. Parking at Horsdal ferry dock. Walk along the shoreline at the start - you will then enter a marked trail.
