Rebberg Schloss Dottenwil, Wittenbach As early as the 18th century, vines were planted on the south-facing slopes of our region. The idea for a vineyard on the Dottenwil south slope originated in 2000. It was intended to produce good wine and enhance the castle surroundings. As early as the 18th century, vines were planted on the south-facing slopes of our region. The idea for a vineyard on the Dottenwil south slope originated in 2000. It was intended to produce good wine and enhance the castle surroundings. Thanks to land allocation by the municipality of Wittenbach and 666 vine sponsorships, the vineyard was realized. The first full harvest took place in 2004; sponsors received one bottle each for 11 years at the winegrower's festival. The municipality receives the "tithe" of the vineyard's yield every year. The "Reblüt", 25 dedicated idealists, established the vineyard and manage it to this day with great passion and commitment. Around 33 acres are planted with 1700 vines. Johanniter whites are at the top and Gamaret blues at the bottom, both resistant and suitable for the location at 600 m above sea level. Schloss Dottenwil, built by Peter Graf in 1543 The Schloss Dottenwil, built by Peter Graf in 1543, has a rich history. It was first mentioned in 1302 and later built by Weibratha Graf. Weibratha married Konrad Atzenholz, who expanded the small castle and inherited the estate with the small castle in 1587. Margaretha, the daughter of Weibratha and Konrad Atzenholz, married Christoph Buffler and brought the Schloss and Gut Dottenwil into her marriage. The ownership of the castle changed hands several times in the 19th century, until Johann Baptist Blattmann acquired the castle for 7000 Gulden in 1807. Blattmann built a large spa house next to the castle and laid out a magnificent garden. The hotel and whey spa enjoyed great popularity and were very well-known. However, Blattmann incurred high debts, so his creditors had the estate publicly auctioned in 1816. Text / Source: wikipedia.org https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schloss_Dottenwil
