November 6, 2023, Stone Farm Rocks

Stone Farm Rocks is a sandstone crag which was formed around 140 million years ago. The rocks are a geological Site of Special Scientific Interest due to the unusual bedding formations. The British Mountaineering Council (BMC) owns the site for climbers and conservation. From this spot above the rocks, you get fine views over Weirwood Reservoir and beyond.

Are there any long-distance or challenging hikes available?

Yes, for those seeking a more strenuous day out, there are several challenging routes. The Brambletye House Ruins – Brambletye Bridge loop is a difficult, 12.4-mile (20 km) hike that explores the wider countryside with significant elevation gain.

What kind of scenery can I expect on hikes around Forest Row?

The landscape is classic High Weald countryside, known for being one of the best-surviving medieval landscapes in Northern Europe. Expect a picturesque mix of rolling hills, ancient woodlands, open heathland, and paths alongside the Weir Wood Reservoir. The views are particularly expansive from the higher ground in Ashdown Forest.
