Because of the protection of Reichenstein Castle, craftsmen settled at the entrance of the moat. Bamberg's bishops founded a church there that was consecrated to the holy apostle James the Elder, the patron saint of pilgrims and travelers. Unfortunately, there is not much left of the original church, as today's parish church was destroyed by the Turks in 1480. The residents rebuilt them (until around 1490) and equipped them with fortifications and defenses. A beautiful church (inside and outside), where you can see that it is a little older, even if it looks fresh. There is a cemetery with many graves around the parish church. Next to the church (across the street) there is a small fountain from which the view is even better. The doctor and scientist Theophrastus Bombast von Hohenheim, better known as Paracelsus, explored numerous conventional and traditional healing methods during his travels through Europe. In the Lavanttal he came upon his visits to special sources and Bründle, where he was able to find curative effects. Due to its discovery St. Leonhard developed into an important spa and health resort. The small Paracelsushaus in the Postgasse reminds of the famous doctor and is the starting point of the source hikes.

Once the Lavant Valley was owned by the diocese of Bamberg. In order to protect the valuable possessions against intruders around 1300 the castle Gomarn was established. Over the centuries, it was further expanded until it burned down completely in the late 18th century in a fire. The remaining remains of the wall still give you a good idea of the magnificent fortress construction.
