"continual slur on Irish caving" It's actually only a few hundred metres is accessible and it's total length is thought to be 2km. No where near the longest cave in Ireland. Consider a trip in only if well equipped with a good light and helmet. Alternatively/also consider visiting McKenzies back lounge just down the road. A much drier watering hole. ;)

Yes, there are over a dozen marked hiking trails in the area. The routes range from easy lakeside strolls to more moderate forest hikes, offering plenty of options for different fitness levels.
The region is well-regarded by the komoot community. Hikers often praise the diverse scenery, which includes everything from the peaceful paths of the Fermanagh Lakelands to the unique geology of the Cuilcagh Lakelands UNESCO Global Geopark.
Absolutely. Many trails in the area are loops, allowing you to start and end in the same place without retracing your steps. For a moderately challenging circular route through varied terrain, consider the Hiking loop from Derrygonnelly.
Many trails in the region are suitable for walking with dogs, especially through the forests and along public footpaths. The Cladagh Glen National Nature Reserve is a popular spot for dog walkers. However, always check local signage, as some areas, particularly those with livestock or sensitive wildlife, may require dogs to be on a lead.
The area is great for families. For a straightforward and scenic walk, the Enniskillen Castle loop from Enniskillen is an excellent choice. It's a relatively flat and manageable walk that combines town and waterside scenery.
For spectacular panoramic views, the Cliffs of Magho Viewpoint is a must-visit. It's a highly-regarded spot that offers breathtaking vistas over Lower Lough Erne and the surrounding countryside. The drive to the viewpoint is scenic in itself.
Yes, the region is part of the Cuilcagh Lakelands UNESCO Global Geopark, known for its limestone geology. While the famous Belmore Forest trail passes Pollnagollum Cave, another key attraction is the Marble Arch Caves, one of Europe's finest show caves, which offers guided tours through a subterranean world.
The terrain is quite varied. You'll find gentle, well-maintained paths around the historic estates of Florence Court and Castle Coole, gravel forest tracks through areas like Belmore Forest, and some steeper, more rugged ascents on trails like the Cuilcagh Boardwalk Trail, also known as the 'Stairway to Heaven'.
Most of the popular, established trails have dedicated car parks. For example, there are parking areas for the Cuilcagh Boardwalk Trail and the Cliffs of Magho hiking trail. For walks starting in towns like Enniskillen, you will need to use public car parks.
Hiking is possible year-round, but the best conditions are typically from late spring to early autumn (May to September) when the weather is milder and daylight hours are longer. The landscape is particularly beautiful in the autumn as the forest colours change.
Definitely. The Fermanagh Lakelands are a major attraction, perfect for kayaking and spotting wildlife like otters and birds. The Marble Arch Caves offer a fascinating underground experience, and the entire Cuilcagh Lakelands Geopark is a highlight for its unique landscapes and geological significance.
