The castle complex consists of the north and south castles. The north castle is a ruined structure with a keep, gatehouses, curtain wall, and chapel. The inhabited south castle is grouped around a courtyard. It has a Gothic residential tower and an attached three-story Renaissance building, a barbican, and a parapet walk. → Main article: Lichtenstein Castle (Lower Franconia) The Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Eternal Light, a hall church with ashlar detailing, a gable roof, a roof turret, and an onion dome, was built between 1710 and 1729. The castle, towering 150 meters above the Weisach Valley, is a widely visible symbol of power and history. First documented in 1126, it served as the ancestral seat of the Lords of Stein for centuries. In 1895, it passed to the Barons of Rotenhan and finally to the Haßberge district in 1972. Noteworthy are the mighty double-towered gate and the picturesque remains of the late Gothic chapel. Source and further information: https://www.maroldsweisach.de/burgruine-altenstein
