The moated castle was owned by the Barons of Thüngen. In 1001, Knight Hildolf von Tüngen exchanged the “village of Sinna with all its appurtenances” with the Bishopric of Würzburg for his imperial fief in Thuringia. It was not until 1303 that Gozo, Aplo and Hermannus de Sinna took up residence in the castle. In 1317 it was a fief of the Counts of Rieneck. In 1337 the Bishop of Würzburg granted it and all its possessions as a castle fief to Dietz von Tungden, who essentially built the castle that stands today between 1339 and 1342 and sold it and all its possessions to his son Wilhelm von Thüngen in 1405. The freehold Burgsinn Castle was later given as a fief to Brandenburg by Balthasar and Sigmund von Thüngen and has been owned by the Andreasian line of the Thüngen family ever since. Gottfried von Thüngen, the current owner, lives in France, so the castle is no longer inhabited. Source: Wikipedia
