... wonderful forest - if only it weren't for these "insensitive maintenance measures" with the monstrous vehicles - well, thankfully the forest is recovering despite these "interventions"... but it could certainly be a bit nicer...

The exact age of the Red Image on the Mainbullauer Höhe is unknown, but it has been proven to have existed for at least 240 years: in a forest map from 1786, which is located in the Miltenberg City Museum, the "Rothe Image" is marked on the road from Ohrenbach to Rüdenau in the forest districts "Vordern Roth" and "Hinter Roth." The latter could also explain the wayside shrine's name. The monument was apparently last renovated 100 years ago, as the number 1924 in the body suggests. Over the decades, the ravages of time had taken their toll on the wayside shrine. Under the leadership of the Mainbullau Local History Association, many hours of volunteer work were spent creating a faithful replica from an oak trunk. The bust of Mary set into the wayside shrine niche was also newly carved based on the original model, which was carved in the 1930s by Josef Link, a Rüdenau native and later pastor and dean. The wayside shrine bears witness to the past in a beautiful setting, with a newly constructed seating area that invites you to linger and contemplate nature.
