Pietlinger Panoramaweg Votive cross in Pietling - Near St. Martin church On April 28, 1945, Johann Lebacher (died 1993) was taken prisoner by Italian partisans at Monte Grappa (Dolomites). He and his comrades were to be shot at the cemetery wall of St. Nicolo. In his mortal fear, he entrusted himself to the Crucified. Literally in the last minute before being shot, a jeep with American soldiers arrived, prevented the execution and took the Germans prisoner. Hans Lebacher returned home safely on July 9, 1945, and in 1950 fulfilled his promise to plant a linden tree and erect a cross at the Dobel, not far from his parents' property. The cast corpus is protected from the elements by a gable roof and the rear wall, which is boarded in a dragon shape.
